I'm still working on getting the modding section back up. When the site went down, I lost all images so some of the images in the tutorials are not working yet. Most of the utilities should still be there (if they aren't, tell me and I will add them).

This is a collection of info and links relating to modifying the games, either to change stuff in the games or for importing Silent Hill stuff into other games. This is a work in progress. I am leaving out some programs that were made obsolete by other programs, like the programs that only modify one Heather shirt or Vincent's clothing (because all of this could be done using the texture explorer instead, but some are in the SH3 mod pack below anyway).

Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition (SH2 PC)

Truly amazing effort by a team of talented folks improving on a masterpiece! Check it out for an enhanced SH2 PC experience. They are updating all the time, so follow the Twitter. Silent Fly (SH2/SH3 PC)

Silent Fly.rar allows you to move the camera by changing its coordinates, also to move James/Maria (useful for getting past barriers or to places you aren't supposed to go).

seems to be the easiest to use, but doesn't seem to work on all computers.

2. open sh2 or sh3 and load a save (or start a game)
3. open silent fly and select which game you're using at the top.
4. click "go" to get character coordinates.
5. modify as desired, either the char coordinates or the cam coordinates. this takes some practice. then click "go" again and the char or cam should've moved.

notes:

*if you move the camera you must also select "freeze camera"
*if you want to visit the island on toluca lake, get on the hotel steps then modify james' x and y coordinates and run around above the lake until you find it.p
*if you want to visit the hidden brookhaven hall, stand at the garden door (after cutscene, after hanging bosses) and turn the james' right. use program to get him through the wall.
*if james/maria/heather is in an area s/he shouldn't be in, s/he can walk through walls. otherwise, you need to use the program to get through barriers and walls.
*it seems impossible to modify the characters' z coordinates unless you climb stairs or something.

Field of Vision Tool (SH3 PC)

Field of Vision tool for SH3
This is a tutorial for the SH3 FOV Hack made by Dave Skotnicki.

All you need to do is unzip the program, open it, and move the sliders.

Moving it to the left makes the field of vision larger, moving it to the right makes it smaller. There's a slider for vertical and horizontal.

Once you moved the sliders, start SH3. Begin or load a game, then press "*" on the number pad to apply the hack. To toggle back, use "/" on the number pad.

A great extraction/replacement tool by perdedork. Put it in the same directory as your games, usually the path shown in the image below. Open it and then you can browse the files and extract any files you want to edit as tga files. Open these in photoshop. When you are done editing, use the “replace current file” feature to put them back into the game.

Known issues:
SH3: Most textures cannot be viewed or edited except for Heather’s textures, the enemies, and a few other things. Most locations can’t even be viewed. To view them, use the Level Editor instead.

Silent Hill Level/Model Viewer (SH2/3/4 PC)

SH234 Level/Model Viewer (links above) will allow you to view the models and levels. Use the mouse to move around and change your view. Click the link for more instructions and to get the program. You can also view the animations. Models and textures can be dumped using the program, including all the textures you can't view/dump with the texture explorer (you can't modify them, only view/extract though).

3D Ripper DX (SH2)

3D Ripper DX can be used for ripping models and levels .obj and other filetypes. It can take a while for larger levels, and the major problem is that, oftentimes, the resulting dumped file is kind of skewed sideways. Still, it's fairly easy to use and worth a try if you want to dump things from SH2. It only works on older versions of DirectX, which may also be a problem if you're using it with a newer computer.

Scarlet (Homecoming PC)

Scarlet is a program that lets you view and extract many types of data from SHH. Read the page linked and the README for further instructions. You have to open the first file in a series, then it will list everything in it: models, textures, sounds, and other data. The GUI allows you to easily extract anything, including models. I have seen screenshots showing that people have re-inserted textures, but I’m not sure what program they used. This is very useful for viewing and extracting data, however.

Silent Hill Resource Editor (SH2/3)

SH Resource Editor allows you to view any text in the game as well as change it. This is especially useful for those who want to translate the game into languages it was not released in. Simply browse for the location of a file (e=English, f=French at the end, and so on, and the names otherwise refer to the locations in the msg folder), click "decode" and then scroll through, edit, and/or replace lines.

Silent Hill 4 Henry Mods (SH4)

Rooker666 (Youtube) made some fun mods to allow you to play as other characters than Henry. I like being Cynthia as Cynthia is following me. Can cause some issues though, and ALWAYS back your shit up before replacing a file!

Emulation

ePSXe is a PS1 emulator, use it to play any version of the Silent Hill 1 game or SH1 demos.

PEC Emulation Cheater is essentially a GameShark program to use WITH the ePSXe emulator above, Silent Hill codes are already in it, just select and "send to emulator." Walk through walls is needed to access hidden sh1 rooms, weapons and inf. health are there too.

PCSX2 is a PS2 emulator; use it for PS2 versions and ROM dumps of the demos and SH2 v.0.1.

Dolphin is a Wii emulator; use it for the Wii version of SHSM for playing and dumping textures.

Visual Boy Advance is a Game Boy Advance emulator; use it for the Silent Hill Play Novel Japanese ROM. (If you want a translation, see Gyromancy's PC port of the SHPN

Silent Hill Shattered Memories (Wii)

Dolphin Emulator is a Wii emulator. Some computers may have trouble running it or problems with lagging. The only thing you can really do with it, besides play the game, is dump textures. You need to turn this on in the graphics options, and then play through the game to dump the textures from the memory. You can't reinsert, and you can't dump anything else.
