Silent Hill Requiem is a fan film that was crowdfunded on Indiegogo a few years ago. It combines the stories of characters like Heather and James, takes inspiration from several of the games, and expands on them
I have seen some other Zenithfilms projects, and one thing I really enjoy is the stylized look and the overall cinematography. Director Gareth Morgan’s work has the quality of an auteur whose style shines through in every frame. There is a limited color palette, with highly-contrasting blood spatter.
The love for the series also is apparent in the characters, scenery, and various other nods to the games. One of my favorite moments is the cut to the game inventory screen when a character needs to reload her weapon. There is a huge attention to detail, and things like Laura’s teddy bears and a poster for Hemingway cigarettes show up, among many other things.
Olwen Davies, a regular in Zenithfilms production, portrays Heather. Gareth Morgan appears as James Sunderland. Several other characters also appear in the film, but you’ll have to watch it yourself.
Despite the low budget, the effects are very impressive, and clearly a lot of time and effort went into making this film. A lot of fan projects never happen, or aren’t very memorable when they do. Thankfully, this is an exception. Great direction and atmosphere, and it’s fun looking at all the little details and knowing what they refer to.
