Silent Hill 2 References

March 28, 2023

Christina Aguilera, 1999 Teen Choice Awards

Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera's middle name is "Maria," and this 1999 outfit clearly inspired the Silent Hill 2 character's pink leopard print outfit. While Christina seems to just have some flat gold circles, Maria wears a belly chain with gold American quarters and a matching leopard print choker with a gold quarter hanging from it.

Con Air

Con Air
I only vaguely remember watching this with a friend in the late '90s while eating pizza, but Mary and Laura's appearance and outfits were influenced by Nic Cage's character's wife and daughter in the film.

Andrew Vachss

Vachss Rd.
There is a Vachss Rd. on the map in Silent Hill 2, and a store called Blue Belle in Silent Hill 1, both referring to author Andrew Vachss and his novel Blue Belle. There is also a store in Silent Hill 3, but I haven't started making the screencaps for that yet!

William Katz

Katz St.

Alice

Canned bulbs
Jan Svankmajer's stop motion and live action film "Alice" inspired James finding a can of lightbulbs, and features cans and jars with keys, lightbulbs, and other strange objects.

Betty Blue

Betty Blue
According to Owaku, the VHS scene was inspired by a similar scene in the French film "Betty Blue."

Jacob's Ladder

Jacob's Ladder
The hospital cutscene is inspired by a similar gurney scene in "Jacob's Ladder" with eyeless monsters and people in cages and behind grates or fencing. James' clothing also resembles that of Jacob Singer.

Blue Velvet

Blue Velvet
The T-shaped stage and curtains are similar to those in David Lynch's "Blue Velvet."
